BAP - Breeders Award Program

The BAP is an award program in which awards are given for the successful propogation of fish or other aquatic animals. The intent is to recognize and encourage the propogation of aquatic animals and foster a spirit of friendly competition and recognition of achievement.
All fry must be spotted (witnessed) within ten days after becoming free-swimming, and again after sixty days, except for Class D species, which must be spotted within forty hours. To qualify for BAP points, you must have at least ten live fry at the end of the sixty-day period. Smaller clutches of difficult species may be credited at the discretion of the BAP coordinator, who should be consulted in advance if such an exception is desired. The breeding pair should be available to the spotter on both occasions, preserved if necessary. The spotter may be any ACE member in good standing, immediate family of the entrant excepted. If you can’t find someone to spot your fry within the required time limits, contact the BAP coordinator as soon as possible, and he will make the necessary arrangements.
Points are awarded for successful reproduction of aquarium or pond fish, as detailed below. Fish are classified according to degree of difficulty in rearing or spawning. Please note that credit will be given only once for any fish species.
There are six levels of awards; the point total given for each category is the cumulative total, i.e. points are carried over when an entrant "graduates" to the next level. The awards are summarized in the following table:
Fish not listed below will be classified and credited by the BAP coordinator.
If you wish to enter any fish not listed in the four classes listed below, please contact the BAP coordinator as soon as possible, since classifying a fish species often involves a considerable amount of research and/or consultation. In particular, Killifish species are too numerous to list individually, so when one is entered it is the BAP coordinator’s responsibility to inform the entrant of its classification. North American native species will be recognized only if the breeder has the appropriate Alberta permit.

Entrants must be ACE members in good standing.
Entry forms must be completed for points to be awarded.
Points will be awarded only once for each fish species spawned.
Once entered, the ownership of the fish may not be changed during the sixty-day assessment period.
Fish not listed in the BAP classification will be evaluated and classified by the BAP coordinator.
The BAP coordinator may alter any of the program regulations in order to maintain the quality of the program, in keeping with its objectives.
